Proses pendidikan sekolah saat ini bukan hanya menyiapkan mahasiswa untuk memiliki kemampuan akademis melainkan serta keterampilan kerja melainkan juga perlu adanya pembentukan karakter bagi mahasiswa agar mereka memiliki sifat atau ciri khas yang melekat pada dirinya dalam berperilaku sehari-hari sehingga mencerminkan sebagai pribadi unggul dan kuat. Untuk mewujudkan hal itu tentu lembaga pendidikan harus memiliki cara dalam membangun karakter Mahasiswa. Berikut 9 cara membentuk karakter mahasiswa yang dapat dilakukan.
- Memberikan Teladan
Mahasiswa akan lebih mudah dan memahami apa yang mereka lihat dan alami secara langsung, untuk itu seorang guru wajib memberikan contoh prilaku yang baik dikarenakan dimanapun seorang guru berada akan menjadi perhatian segala tindak tanduknya maka guru wajib berhati-hati dalam setiap ucapan dan perbuatannya. Seorang guru seringkali diingat bukan karena pelajaran yang diajarkan, namun bisa juga karena sifat yang dimilikinya.
- Memberikan Penghargaan/Apresiasi
Memberikan apresiasi pada Mahasiswa dapat menjadi salah satu strategi pembentukan karakter pada Mahasiswa. Ucapan terimakasih atau selamat tidak hanya diberikan kepada Mahasiswa saat meraih prestasi besar namun saat Mahasiswa mengalami kemajuan kecil pun juga perlu memberikan apresiasi.
Pembentukan karakter Mahasiswa seperti ini tidak hanya membuat Mahasiswa lebih percaya diri, tetapi Mahasiswa juga akan semakin bersemangat belajar karena merasa dihargai dan diperhatikan.
- Menyisipkan pesan Moral dalam setiap pembelajaran
Pengembangan karakter Mahasiswa yang lain dapat dilakukan dengan menyisipkan pesan moral dalam setiap pelajaran. Ajarkan siswa untuk mengambil hikmah dalam setiap sehingga memahami bahwa ilmu yang didaptkan memang penting untuk masa depannya.
- Jujur dan Open Minded
Memberikan pemahaman kepada Mahasiswa bahwa setiap individu tidak pernah luput dari kesalahan. Sehingga ketika melakukan kesalahan tidak perlu malu mengakui kesalahannya dan meminta maaf atas kesalahan yang telah diperbuat dan tidak mengulangi kesalahan yang sama.
Hal ini sangat penting untuk dilakukan karena akan membuat Mahasiswa berani bertanggung jawab dan menerima kritikan atau saran dariorang lain.
- Mengajarkan Sopan santun
Penerapan program 5 S (salam, senyum, sapa, sopan dan santun) tidak hanya dilakukan dalam bentuk tulisan dilorong-lorong atau dinding sekolah melainkan juga dengan contoh dan teladan dari guru. Serta Guru harus menegur siswa yang tidak berprilaku sopan supaya Mahasiswa tahu apa yang dilakukan dan dikatakan tidak tepat.
- Menanamkan Leadership
Jiwa kepemimpinan atau Leadership adalah salah satu karakter Mahasiswa yang harus dibangun. Sifat kepemimpinan dapat dilatih dengan cara memberikan kesempatan kepada siswa secara bergantian untuk menjadi pemimpin atau dapat juga dengan cara memberi tugas secara kelompok.
- Menceritakan Pengalaman Inspiratif
Sebelum melakukan pengajaran seorang guru dapat menceritakan pengalaman inspiratif baik pengalaman sendiri ataupun inspirasi dari tokoh-tokoh terkenal. Hal ini akan mendali role model bagi para Mahasiswa. Cerita inspiratif itu dapat berupa cerita tentang kegagalan seseorang dan bagaimana ia bangkit dari keterpurukannya.
- Melakukan kegiatan literasi
Literasi tidak hanya tentang kemampuan membaca dan menulis. Saat ini literasi juga memiliki pengertian kemampuan seseorang dalam mengolah dan memahami informasi saat melakukan proses membaca dan menulis dan ini tentunya dapat membentuk karakter Mahasiswa.
- Membongkar mental block
Adakalanya Mahasiswa harus diminta untuk melakukan sesuatu hal yang baru agar keluar dari zona nyaman. Dengan Mahasiswa sering melakukan hal-hal baru yang menantang tentunya akan melatih mereka untuk bisa keluar dari keyakinan-keyakinan bahwa mereka tidak bisa, tidak mampu, tidak bisa kuat melainkan mereka akan lebih berfikir bisa dan mampu sehingga akan membentuk sikap optimism yang tinggi.
